Kopitiam Tips For Reading Aloud

  1. Sit with an upright body position (don't slouch or sit like an unta) - read the given text loud and clear (don't shout nor scream) as if your teacher is deaf or something.
  2. Keep reading confidently even if you make grammar or pronunciation mistakes (which might occur).
  3. Don't read too fast or too slow. Read accordingly with a proper tempo and timing. ( imagine your self as a graceful ballet dancer)
  4. Make sure you use the proper stress and intonation when reading your text.

Kopitiam Tips For Spoken Interaction

  1. Take a deep breath - relax and stay cool and calm even if you are sweating like crazy.
  2. Keep your English simple and nice - use proper tenses when you speak.
  3. Make sure you speak or interact loud enough for your teacher to hear you - don't murmur or speak with a low pitch.
  4. Don't worry too much about your grammar or your English - just talk and keep talking until your teacher asks you to stop.
  5. Remember the more you talk the better chance you have to get better scores.
  6. If you just keep quiet or talk less - the less mark you'll be awarded.

    1. Yes, you may. The formula is quite easy for speaking. Start with a short intro and have at least 3 points and finish it with a simple conclusion.

  7. Hello! Can I know more about the speaking test? I'm really bad at it.I got panic every time and I don't even know what should I say after that 1 minute, even if I'm not panic, my mind is blank too although the topic is really easy. And I also hope I can improve my grammar because I'm really bad at it when it comes to speaking. I'm okay in writing. Just okay. So, I really hope you can help me with this. :)

    1. Just keep cool and answer the questions asked by your teacher.Don't panic...

To improve your grammar pay attention to your teacher and if you are taking tuition then pay attention in the class.Do a lot of grammar exercises to brush-up your grammar.

The most common problem with Malaysian students is they love to speak with their friends in their mother tongue. It's nothing wrong speaking in your mother tongue but if you want to seriously improve your spoken English then you better start using English to communicate with your friends....

  8. Can you give me some example how to start the first talk to my teachers when i have speaking test?

    1. Don't worry too much, I can't give a definite sample because it all depends on the teacher(s) who will be conducting the test.

Most common way to start is wish the teacher a 'Good Morning' or a ' Good Afternoon'.

  9. hi.may know how long do we need to speak as before during trial speaking test at my school i spoke for 5 minutes and i got 47/50 for my trial speaking test. so do i have to speak in 5 minutes or more?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The longer you speak the more marks your teacher can give you. But, you must remember speaking is like writing. You have an intro, 3 points and a conclusion-depending on the topic asked of course....5 minutes is good enough!

  10. Hello. I just did my english oral test today. When i read the text it was quite fluent but still i stop just a bit between the words it was quite clear as i know the teachers were listening. Later i hesitated for a long time when they asked me some questions cz they just gave me 5 seconds to think about . I talk quite less and took about 5 minutes to finish the whole thing.
I was frustrated about what my marks should be at your opinion can i get at least 20 marks for this? Tqq

    1. 1. Group Test
      2. Individual Test

In group test, there will be 4 students and you'll be given a topic to discuss or talk about. The more you talk the more marks you can get. As for the individual test, use the same formula, the more you talk the more marks can be awarded to you.If don't know what to talk, then just try to 'goreng' something-just don't say I don't know or stay 'blank'...All the best!

      -easily noticed or seen
-sticking out in a way that is easily seen or noticed

  24. i just had my oral test today, i read well but the speaking about the topic part didn't flow as smoothly. I tried to talk as much as i could but i accidentally repeated the words before continuing my sentence.the teacher asked "is that all" so i did my best to end it with a conclusion. after reading this website i realised i lacked eye-contact. will a lot of marks be deducted because of these things? how much marks should i score for the listening exam to get an A overall if for ex i scored 8/9 for reading and 12/13 for speaking? i feel very disappointed in myself is there still a chance to get A?
